@acassis multichan PWM was added loooong time ago in e8c2466c1cecf22035976a2dd577dfc67f9ea373. I have no idea why it was done this way, but I think it can be done better by avoiding unnecessary complication of the code. To be clear: this code works fine for many years and no one seems to have complained before.
