[~swsekar] Can you elaborate a bit on why this change would be necessary?
APPLICATION_NAME and APPLICATION_VERSION were used as part of the Insights
offering from DataStax. That effort has long been defunct... we just haven't
been as vigorous about removing support for it as we'd like. It's worth noting
that the [native protocol
spec|https://github.com/apache/cassandra/blob/trunk/doc/native_protocol_v5.spec#L462-L491]
doesn't identify very many specific keys for what can appear in STARTUP
messages (and it definitely doesn't include either APPLICATION_NAME or
APPLICATION_VERSION). I'll also note that we're already heading in the other
direction; we're starting to work on version 5.0.0 of the Java driver and hope
to include [this PR|https://github.com/apache/cassandra-java-driver/pull/2038]
which removes Insights support entirely (including the removal of the
withApplicationName() and withApplicationVersion() methods referenced in your
original comment). The C/C++ driver is a bit behind on this front but I would
anticipate something similar for a 3.0.0 release of that driver as well.
