Because of the size of the work, I'd suggest to do it in separate iterations
for every tool, with their own feature branch and merge it before as soon as
possible. That would allow the iterations to keep shorter in time and lower the
risk of concurrent changes between trunk and feature branches, while provide
agility.
I will check out your PR and have a look on it.
