Ach, yes, I'm not sure what I was smoking. I'm currently working on a follow
up ticket with more inadequacies with {{calculatePendingRanges}}, in which I'm
putting together unit tests for other failure cases. So perhaps shelve review
of this ticket for now, and I'll let you know when I have both ready with
associated unit tests.
