Some settings default to values that are known to cause issues for example
num_tokens has a default value of 256. Anybody who has operated Cassandra knows
to lower it. Setting this as default will cause users issues and has proven
problematic.
Let’s evaluate the defaults in cassandra.yaml and update them for Cassandra 4.0.
