Overview:
The Research Library and Information Services Group at Oak Ridge National 
Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking a dynamic, forward-thinking Librarian to help 
elevate the impact of the Library and push towards becoming the Library of the 
Future. The Library is part of ORNL's Office of Institutional Strategic 
Planning, and serves researchers, technical staff, mission support 
organizations, students, and others both in person and virtually. We endeavor 
to make our physical space and our online presence as inviting and 
collaborative as possible. The successful candidate will provide high-quality 
reference support with an emphasis on providing a satisfying and engaging user 
experience. This includes developing new ways to deliver information to library 
users more proactively and striving for continuous improvement. A strategic and 
energetic candidate will enjoy the opportunity to modernize Library services 
and collections to best support ORNL's ambitious scientific missions.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  *   Provide library reference services to ORNL staff, subcontractors, 
students, and others as appropriate by staffing a service desk (in-person) and 
providing "virtual reference" via chat, email, and phone.
  *   Complete scientific profiles for S&T staff and new hire candidates by 
collecting bibliographic data from CVs and databases such as SciVal, Scopus, 
Web of Science, etc.
  *   Complete in-depth projects with ORNL staff. Examples include publication 
tracking for organizations, assisting researchers with literature reviews, 
identifying subject matter experts, etc.
  *   Provide user education and outreach to include library orientation 
sessions and workshops on library products and services.
  *   Participate in collection development activities, including evaluating 
resources and adding/removing print and electronic resources.
  *   Work closely with other Librarians and staff to advance the impact of the 
Library by modernizing systems and processes.
  *   Set priorities appropriately to accomplish multiple tasks within 
deadlines.
  *   Adhere to DOE directives/standards and training requirements.
  *   Deliver ORNL's mission by aligning behaviors, priorities, and 
interactions with our core values of Impact, Integrity, Teamwork, Safety, and 
Service. Promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility by fostering a 
respectful workplace - in how we treat one another, work together, and measure 
success.

Basic Qualifications:

  *   Master of Library Science or Master of Library and Information Science 
degree, plus 1 year of relevant experience OR equivalent graduate degree and 
two years of experience as a librarian supporting the research process.
  *   Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  *   Demonstrated organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
  *   Strong customer service focus including interpersonal skills.
  *   Ability to obtain a DOE security clearance (L or Q).

Preferred Qualifications:

  *   Familiarity with publication metrics such as H-index and Field-Weighted 
Citation Impact (FWCI).
  *   Previous experience with advanced database search queries.
  *   Experience applying collection development principles.
