The Head of User Experience Design and Planning is responsible for providing leadership in integrating progressive user experiences in the Library’s digital and physical spaces and services and collaborating with other managers and cross-functional teams to optimize services and spaces using UX methods. For more information, visit our web-site at https://www.library.ualberta.ca. <https://www.library.ualberta.ca./> Role: The Head is responsible for creating and implementing a user experience framework to enhance user experiences in navigating the Library’s digital and physical services and collections. This work will be accomplished by coordinating the usage, assessment and enhancement of key Library digital applications and platforms, web presences and the integrations between them. The Head will also coordinate with other managers and cross-functional teams to develop and enhance an integrated and holistic approach that optimizes services and spaces using UX methods. This work includes creating UX-based practices integrated with EDI and universal design principles to ensure our services are equitable and inclusive, reflecting the diversity of our community and their needs. The Head will also foster collaborations with other campus departments and constituencies to further integrate with campus services through digital platforms to provide a consistently enhanced user experience. Through open communication and continuous collaboration, the Head will strengthen a user experience-centred and assessment-based decision-making culture at UAL. The Head will model an approach that is unafraid to fail or take chances and will be open to new approaches. The Head will contribute to Library administration and furthers strategic initiatives via the Library’s Operations Team and participates as a member or resource on system-wide teams, committees, and working groups. The Head may participate in and seek professional and scholarly research opportunities, including the ability to apply for and hold research funding as a principal applicant. Qualifications: Required: - Masters-level degree from an accredited program of library, or information science, or equivalent internationally accredited program. - Demonstrated knowledge of user experience theories, methodologies and practices. - Demonstrated knowledge of core library digital applications and services that support the operations and strategic initiatives of academic libraries, such as library discovery services, integrated library system (or library service platform), repository services and digital collections. - Demonstrated ability to initiate, plan and carry out projects, both independently and as a member of a team. - Ability to build relationships and work collegially in a diverse, proactive, and team-oriented environment. - Evidence of strong professional communication skills, including: written and verbal, in-person and digital, active listening, responding to constructive feedback. - Ability to recognize, respect, and work effectively with individuals and groups with diverse perspectives and backgrounds; takes the initiative in learning about language and issues relating to equity and diversity. Preferred: - Experience or knowledge related to incorporating equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) into overall professional practice. - Experience working in an academic library. - Knowledge of current and recent trends in library technology and user needs, - Interest in leadership as related to the committee and project work. - Experience in supervision. - Demonstrated success in collaborative work focused on developing user-centred services and/or processes.
