DePaul University Library enthusiastically invites applications for the 
position of Metadata Librarian for Digital & E-Resources.

Summary

Reporting to the Coordinator of Technical Services, the Metadata Librarian for 
Digital & E-Resources is responsible for creating, harvesting, enhancing, 
and maintaining metadata to optimize discovery across library systems. You will 
lead the implementation of batch processing and automation for metadata and 
cataloging enrichment and develop innovative approaches to generating metadata 
at scale. You will serve as an expert on emerging metadata trends and 
collaborate with internal and external partners to create solutions that ensure 
optimal discovery of the Library’s collections. Library staff work in a highly 
supportive, collegial culture that encourages active participation in 
meaningful and valuable skills training and professional development. 

Responsibilities & Duties

Discovery Enhancement & Batch Processing

Analyzes e-resource entitlements and addresses gaps in discoverability.
Evaluates vendor record sets and other metadata options for e-resource packages 
to determine best options for discovery.
Implements and manages data load and processing activities that support library 
operations and discovery, such as creating import profiles for OCLC updates, 
acquisitions data, and MARC record sets.
Performs metadata and cataloging creation and enrichment projects at scale 
using data manipulation tools and programming languages.
Performs data maintenance.
Assesses data integrity and quality, and remediates problems as they arise.
Performs complex copy and original cataloging for individual electronic 
resources as needed.

Metadata Standards & Practices Management

Leads development and implementation of best practices for non-MARC metadata, 
including evaluation of workflows, policies, tools, and procedures.
Supports digital projects by developing documentation and training materials, 
leading metadata creation, and selecting appropriate schemas and taxonomies.
Implements harvesting processes to improve sharing of and reuse of metadata at 
scale.
Performs data mapping and transformations, leveraging non-MARC data sources to 
enable discovery and facilitate interoperability between systems.
Collaborates with library staff to ensure seamless development and 
implementation of electronic resources cataloging and metadata workflows and 
procedures.
