Job Summary

The Senior Educational Technologist will be responsible for the deployment of 
innovative tools and curricula, to be used by Harvard College’s largest course, 
Computer Science 50 (CS50): Introduction to Computer Science I, and more 
broadly in courses taught by other faculty members. The Technologist will 
report academically to the principal course instructor for CS50 and will work 
closely with other faculty members and departments across campus interested in 
integrating new pedagogical approaches and technologies into courses.

This position will offer opportunities for experimentation with the latest 
technologies and will involve deployment of non-traditional solutions to 
pedagogical problems. Ideal candidates will have strong backgrounds in software 
as well as interest in the production of educational content.

Job-Specific Responsibilities

Working with senior faculty on new forms of video capture, technology, and 
pedagogy
Budgeting for and procuring equipment
Managing and training teams of staff or students.
Researching equipment, including innovative ways to use new technologies in the 
classroom and field
Staying current with emerging technologies for cutting-edge technologies
Responsible for setup and maintenance of video-distribution infrastructure and 
software tools locally and in the cloud. Maintaining software tools, setting 
up, scaling and administrating servers, defining workflows, and defining media 
lifecycles, archival process and implementation
Designing teaching- and learning-centric spaces on campus and designing and 
implementing pedagogical tools.
Assigning individual and team projects
Promoting efficiency and quality of work
Mentoring new staff, liaising with other areas within SEAS and across university

Basic Qualifications

A bachelor's degree
Seven years of relevant work experience

Additional Qualifications and Skills

Candidates ideally have fluency in Python, experience with SQL, C as well as 
web programming, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.  Comfort with Linux and a 
command line as well as system administration experience.  Experience with 
virtualization is important.  Expertise with AWS cloud services, as well as, 
Docker.

Master's degree in computer science or equivalent experience is preferred. 
Experience in an academic environment and with teaching is very helpful.

Superior organizational, written and interpersonal communication skills are 
necessary, along with the ability to collaborate on and across teams.
 

Physical Requirements

This position requires operation of video and other equipment.

Working Conditions

The work is performed in office and classroom environments.

This is a two-year term position.
