Buddy, we have positions in my department that are developer / librarians; we
tend to look for folks with some skills and lots of drive/aptitude, and then
train them once they acquire the position. However these are clinical
positions, and there are no T and P obligations even though we also have
numerous T and P librarians. Our Human Resources also keeps a close eye on
technology salaries, and also limits the library’s (and other departments)
ability to offer higher salaries than other librarian positions, and they
generally like to keep all tech positions salaries close to each other on
campus, regardless fo whether you are with the libraries, or arts and sciences,
or the technology division, etc. It is certainly challenging.

Lisa, I would love to see that. We have wrestled with how to merge programmer

We actually have two positions called Librarian Developers, which are tenure
track and require advanced degree (I think MLS) If interested I can find the
job description and share.

Subject: [CODE4LIB] Systems Librarian / software developer

I have a question regarding staff development and I am hoping someone can
provide some advice. I have two vacant librarian positions in my Library
Systems department. I need to fill those vacancies with software/systems
developers in order to move our initiatives forward. We have encountered
reluctance on the part of our human resources to repurpose those librarian
positions into developer positions.
