Reports to the Head of Library Information Technology The Systems Librarian contributes to the Library's mission of delivering a seamless experience to users by developing, supporting, and maintaining the library discovery platform, online catalog, and discovery strategies. This position has overall responsibility for the installation, maintenance, and enhancement of the library's integrated library system, Innovative Interfaces – Sierra, and provides technical support for the library website, institutional repository and university digital archives. Specific responsibilities: Leads, administers, maintains, and supports the Library’s integrated library system (ILS), currently Innovative Interfaces Inc.’s (III) Sierra, and associated peripherals so faculty, students and staff have access to the full range of system functionality including the web catalog. Administers e-resource vendor Admin module configurations, e.g., EBSCO, Ovid, ProQuest. Provides expertise and works collaboratively with library staff to develop discovery and access strategies for the library website, institutional repository and university digital archives. Participates in the ongoing assessment, planning, and delivery of access points for discovery of library resources and services by faculty, students and researchers. Monitors development of next generation library catalogs and aggregate discovery tools. Creates reports, extracts data to other systems, e.g., Rapid ILL, and performs patron record loads for the ILS. Troubleshoots problems with the ILS and discovery tools and escalates issues to the vendor as necessary. Works closely with other staff to establish, maintain, and troubleshoot patron access to e-resources. Acts as a member of the Library IT team to troubleshoot problems, provide support for library hardware and software, and train staff on new technologies. Writes detailed documentation of procedures and report functionality. Trains staff on relevant modules of the ILS, including upgrades and new products. Required qualifications: Master’s degree in Library or Information Science or equivalent. Two to three years of library experience, preferably in an academic library. Two years of experience working with an integrated library system in an administrative capacity. Experience with Innovative Interfaces (III) Sierra and load profiles highly preferred. Successful experience: in managing, implementing or integrating link resolvers and ILS data; in scripting or programming to automate tasks; and in managing, implementing or integrating with any discovery layers such as EDS, Encore, Summon, or Primo. Knowledge of MARC format and familiarity with library technology standards and protocols such as Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR), Z39.50 search protocol, OAI/PHM harvesting protocol, Resource Description and Access (RDA). Experience with database querying (SQL) for an integrated library system. Familiarity with Web 2.0 collaboration and sharing. Familiarity with web accessibility and design standards. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong commitment to patron service and support. Preferred qualifications: Preference for experience with III systems (Millennium and/or Sierra), but other ILS experience is also acceptable. Familiarity with Microsoft Office products with emphasis on Access and Excel. Knowledge of bibliographic record structures as they relate to core library operations such as circulation, cataloging, acquisitions, serials, etc. Knowledge of CSS, HTML, PGSQL, XSL, XML, basic UNIX commands. Familiarity with content management systems, e.g., LibGuides, OU Campus. Knowledge of technologies for digital libraries, such as OpenURL, Dublin Core, MARC, APIs and/or linked data. Demonstrated problem-solving and creativity in using technology to advance information discovery, teaching, learning, and organizational effectiveness.
