The University of Waterloo Library is seeking a Head, Metadata & Cataloguing 
Services


Reporting to the Associate University Librarian, Research & Digital Discovery 
Services (MCS), the incumbent will lead the department of 15 staff in 
transitioning to providing a variety of metadata services to meet a range of 
discovery needs while continuing to support MARC-based descriptive cataloguing. 
The Head, MCS provides vision and leadership, strategic planning and management 
for all of the operational activities of the Metadata & Cataloguing Services 
department including the Holdings Maintenance and Inventory Control unit and 
the Cataloguing & Metadata unit. The Head, MCS works collaboratively to lead 
the development of metadata services in evolving digital and physical 
environments. The successful candidate will have a clear vision for the future 
of resource discovery and access.

The University of Waterloo Library is a member of the Canadian Association of 
Research Libraries (CARL), the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), the 
Coalition for Networked Information (CNI), and the Ontario Council of 
University Libraries (OCUL). The incumbent will work with OCUL libraries as we 
transition towards enhanced collaboration on a shared library platform through 
the OCUL Collaborative Futures 
project<http://ocul.on.ca/projects/collaborative-futures>. The Library is a 
member of the Tri-University Group (TUG), along with member libraries at the 
University of Guelph and Wilfrid Laurier University, serving a combined student 
population of over 76,000, combined holdings exceeding 5 million, and combined 
budgets exceeding $45 million. The Tri-University Group manages shared 
technology and a remote storage facility, and enables collaborative projects 
across the three library systems.
