You can tell it to ignore the warning like this:

#pragma clang diagnostic push
#pragma clang diagnostic ignored "-Warc-performSelector-leaks"
        NSNumber *status = [ self performSelector: aSelector  withObject: a  
withObject: b ];
#pragma clang diagnostic pop
