Sorry, yes it does :) What wasn't clear in the debugger was that the main thread was running completing the request and so the lock condition was being set in the few nanoseconds it took to step between statements - the thread I was debugging appeared to just carry on straight through without stopping, which is what I suppose it is meant to look like, from its standpoint.
