It turns out that the new iOS 6 UIViewController/UIView state restoration does not work through a restart of the device! Thus, in order to get a decent launch experience after the device is restarted, you end up having to implement manual state save-and-restore, just as before - alongside of the new built-in state restoration. In my view, this is a huge omission on Apple's part, greatly reducing the value of this feature. What I was hoping for is for my app to come back just as before, no matter *what* may have intervened since the user backgrounded it. m.
