Well, I forgot to mention that (unsurprisingly) I have also been using LLDB, to which I switched precisely because I discovered that it solved this problem. So the upshot is that exceptions are broken in iOS 5 when debugging under Snow Leopard, but it can be sort-of worked around by using an alternate debugger that isn't trustable?
