Here's some actual working code (copied and pasted from chapter 35 of my book): - (BOOL) canBecomeFirstResponder { return YES; } - (void) viewDidAppear: (BOOL) animated { [super viewDidAppear: animated]; [self becomeFirstResponder]; } - (void)motionEnded:(UIEventSubtype)motion withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { NSLog(@"hey, you shook me!"); } Might try that. Keep in mind that having a text field as first responder complicates the story a little. m. -- matt neuburg, phd = m...@tidbits.com, <http://www.apeth.net/matt/> A fool + a tool + an autorelease pool = cool!
