Dominic, I haven't done this yet, but need to set this up in the app I'm beginning to work on.
>From the searches I've done, perhaps the solution is NSMetadataQuery along with a UTI. Take a look at both the SpotlightFortunes and PhotoSearch sample code. The only drawback I can think of is that the spotlight search depends upon whatever is indexed. Therefore, anything not indexed will not return. Hope this helps. Anybody else? Keep us posted.
