I'm not sure, but the section "Fetch Predicates and Sort Descriptors" in here:

will tell you what you can, or more specifically what you *cannot* do in a 
fetch predicate.

P.S.  The title of the document, "Persistent Store Features", is probably an 
inside joke at Apple.  After reading it you'll realize that a better title 
would be "Persistent Store Limitations" :))
