Ffor the record, Matt Neuburg helped me figure out that my Magic Trackpad was 
failing BECAUSE I had the iPhone charging all the time in a USB charging cradle 
attached to the same computer. Now that I am charging my iPhone elsewhere, the 
Magic Trackpad is working reliably.
