I've done that for other reasons; so I have a robust well-used class available, 
but in this case I'm trying to stick to a closer to pure Cocoa implementation.

BTW, I tried a named pipe, works but it was surprisingly slow. Domain sockets 
are next up. (Maybe after I try a couple of isolated tests of named pipes...)
