Try using the synchronous version of NSURLConnection since you are launching it from within a NSOperation already- + (NSData *)sendSynchronousRequest:(NSURLRequest *)request returningResponse:(NSURLResponse**)response error:(NSError **)error The docs mention that no special run loop configuration is necessary in this case.
