I've written that same kind of iteration many times and never seen that 
warning. It sounds like it's 64-bit specific, and perhaps related to some 
especially strict warning you've enabled. (I have a vague memory of that 
"different width due to prototype" warning being, in effect, completely 
useless.) What warning flags are you using?
