Hi folks!

I really need your help to make up my mind:

For the last year I develop a hobby solution, which consists of a stand-alone
application, a QuickLook and a Spotlight plugin. While the app is shareware,
the plugin can be used for free. Currently I distribute all of them as three
single files: dummy.app, dummy.qlgenerator, dummy.mdimporter and provide
installation instruction where to place these files.

A lot of my users are not computer-affine, struggle with the installation and I
need to support them with step-by-step instructions.

For the next release (sometime in spring 2010) I consider an installer, no big
deal, but two things make me hesitate:

(1.) On my Mac I'm reluctant to install apps with an installer (asking for an
administrative account) if I don't know for sure what it does. My users might
not care, but I'm not sure.

(2.) Somebody interested only in the (free) plugins, would have to install the
app, anyway. Or I'll provide three separate installers, which might lead to
even more confusions.

At the moment I'm quite weak-minded. What would be your suggestion, what would
you prefer? The original files to be placed on your own (which might include
the creation of directories) or an installer you have to trust ...
