If you use a void section, you can reorder the sections and the custom (here footer) view with just a change in #defines. It seems cleaner to me. Am I just lazy? And does using an empty section produce any visual or functional difference?

Since you said you're doing this in the middle of the table, I'm assuming there's a section with rows directly above where you're doing this, and that seems like a more logical place for the footer view.
