Again, SystemConfiguration has APIs for that. But unless you're doing something unusual, you probably don't need to check for physical network interfaces. An active link doesn't necessarily mean you can connect to any remote hosts. In almost all cases, what you really want to know is whether a particular host or net is reachable.
