You don't, but there appear to be certain QuickTime components -- decoder/encoder modules, perchance? -- that do and will inside your application if you use QuickTime. There may be other plugin-by-implication-of-API-use that do the same. And there appears to be at least one of them that is doing unsafe unloading, given the various crash logs that I have seen in the recent past.
