You can use CGDisplayIsBuiltin() to detect integrated screens, therefore any that return NO must be external. But what the "main" screen is will depend on the users settings, and can vary dynamically, for example if the user has the main screen set as an external monitor, and unplugs it, the system will reconfigure immediately without a reboot and change the main screen to the built-in.
