Sounds like it's merely word wrapping. Try replacing the periods with spaces - what happens?
You can disable word wrapping in IB for the cell - set the layout to "scrolls" and the Line Breaks to "truncate tail" (or middle, whatever you need) and check the "truncates last visible line" checkbox.
