Any thoughts or ideas would be helpful.
I'm pretty sure that this work would have to come from Apple, as a lot
of the stuff you're suggesting changes to (especially the
SystemUIServer stuff) would have to be changed on their end.
Filing a bug is probably about all you can do here.
