Actually, the Finder (and probably cp, NSFileManager, etc. as well) will automatically flatten resource forks and Finder metadata in this case. The flattened data is stored in a file with the same name, prefixed with a dot-underscore. I'd be more concerned with other transmission mechanisms; that's why I mentioned E-Mail earlier.
