Maybe I'm not understanding what you're trying to do, but a table view *already* grows with the number of items *displayed in the table view*.
That the NSTableView typically comes already embedded in an NSScrollView (when dragged in IB) is beside the point. :-)
If I'm not understanding, maybe a more in-depth description would help.
