Yes, you can do it by subclassing NSPathControl and providing a custom NSPathComponentCell. I have done it that way too, see the result here: http://www.binarynights.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/picture-9.png .

Though the height cannot be set from IB you can change it runtime calling setframe:.
