Yes, that changes things a bit. :-) I'm not convinced, though, that you have the view geometry & drawing basics quite right. I'd turn off all layers and make sure it's working normally without them. At least then you know in which of the two significantly-different areas the problem is hiding (view geometry/drawing or layers/animation). If it's the latter, I'm afraid I have to defer to others as I've still only tested the water temperature with a single toe, so to speak ...
