What I did, to test something, was using NSimage to create an image. Save the representation, as jpeg f.e, in tmp and then read it back with DOM.
You can also do a lot with CSS to make it smooth, or easy client in depended colors, layout e.t.c.
The best way is to make a table with your list of requirements and check off how well both ways ( webkit / NSView ) are doing there job for each item.
