It would lead to a large increase in poorly-designed, auto-ported Mac applications. And then developers would wonder why nobody wants to purchase their software, even though the Windows version did so well. Part of developing for the Mac really involves appreciation for the user experience. To this effect, not employing the services of someone talented in interface design will result in the application failing to mesh with the rest of the ecosystem of applications.
