Well, I'd guess that C++ is pretty future-proof. If you want to be even safer,
go back to plain C. Given the wide array of open-source libraries written in C
and used by Apple, I think it's pretty certain that they can never ever drop C
support. Even if the higher level stuff changes every once in a while now, 
there'll
always be a way to call into C code from it. At least that's what I'd predict.
