Sounds like NSTabView performs custom logic when autoresizing its
subviews, which makes perfect sense considering the special behavior
of tab views.  NSTabView is doing the right thing; why aren't you just
sticking the NSBox inside the tab view item's view?

You mean like:

        [[[tabView selectedTabViewItem] view] setAutoresizesSubviews:NO];
        [[[tabView selectedTabViewItem] view] addSubview: boxView];

This would work, but the there are margins between the selectedTabViewItem and the boxView when I do this. This means that the contents of the box doesn't line up with the controls that are in the window, but outside of the tab view:



The line is the tab view, the bezel is the box....
