For the most part, I think what you have already done is fine.  The only part left is to sand/grind a bit of it down so you can add gelcoat.  You can make a template of your gelcoat pattern with modeling clay or something similar to make a stamp.  Then add gelcoat (color matched) to the holes and use the stamp to create the impression on new gelcoat.
