Interesting discussion. The only time I have had my raw water intake plugged was when I ran the engine in a grassy area while at anchor. In that case, the grass plugged up the through hull and never got to the strainer. The admiral dived down and cleared it by hand by pulling the weeds out. I don't think that could happen when motoring or at least it hasn't yet. I am much more careful now running the engine when there is seaweed or grass floating around, especially when not moving. Dave
