If it was USCG Documented, then there should be a Documentation Number
somewhere on the boat (usually some place out of the way). The number is what
you need for the abstract

If the vessel is/was USCG documented then you can request an “Abstract of
Title” from the USCG.

At one time I virtually met one of the earliest owners of my boat and I'm
hoping they're on this list. I have a 1971 C&C35 mk I, hull number 85, and
sail number 14032. I bought her from Grand Bend, Ontario, Canada, but I
believe that owner purchased her from Bay City, Michigan, USA, where she was
named Decadence. The hull is Fighting Lady Yellow, but was at one time a light
blue.
