I think that is more a function of your policy choice. BoatUS won't even take on new clients with a boat that is more than 20 years old. Most insurance companies will require a survey if the boat is older, otherwise they will insure it for ~$10k. With my policy, any damage will be covered up to the value of the boat ($60k). Yes, the deductible is high, $3000 for any claim, $6000 if the damage occurs during a named storm, and $0 if the boat is a total loss. This includes losing the mast, I'd get up to $60k minus the deductible. Also, my policy has a 100% tow reimbursement with no deductible.
