Welcome fellow 40 owner. Bought another boat. Still keeping her in the
family for future generations.

Hello all,
My wife and I own a C&C 40-2 1980 model that is a retired successful racer.
We use it for cruising around the islands & Baja in Southern California waters.
These were quality boats and still a great deal for what you get. A 40ft class
boat with full interior and galley capabilities very nicely appointed with
wonderful teak wood interior throughout. I have recently upgraded the
electronics on board again from RayMarine to B&G Zeus3 chart plotter and full
NEMA 2000 network. The stereo and all navigation systems can be controlled by
smartphone or tablet and the Yanmar diesel has been freshly rebuilt with only
30hrs operating time. We inherited 9 bags of sails and we have the tall rig
plus extra cutter and baby stays for all kinds of sail configurations. The
draft on ours is 7ft as west coast sailing doesn't have lots of shallows that
perhaps a swing board drop would be needed for 5ft draft.
She handles well, sails almost as easy as my original Cal 20 on short handed
as I learned on as a youngster. She can outrun most typical cruisers in her
class with easy light breezes including the popular choices such as Catalina 36
or Catalina 38 and can keep up with friends who have a Catalina 42 on normal
passages between the islands we sail to here. These have a low 93 handicap
rating and are nimble for their age. It's a lot of boat for little money as
there are a lot that have had deferred maintenance not done for sale at bargain
prices. We picked ours up in the height of the C19 epidemic for an extreme
bargain! Everything in the articles written for Practical and others are pretty
much true. I still think her lines are sexy and she looks modern go-fast just
sitting in her slip 40 years on. Not dated at all. If she had a sugar scoop or
walk through transom, she would look like she's half her age by design lines.
We are happy with what we ended up with though all things considered.

Hi!

Any C&C 40 owners on the list willing to offer opinions on this model?
There is one local to me that might be worth a look. The good, the bad,
hidden things to look for?
