On Calypso, to prevent the boom from swinging like a late 40’s Bebop band I have pulled the traveler hard over to one side then used a light line to hold some tension from the other. Also when at anchor with a side wind I used the foreguy attached to the spinnaker pole track and applied some pressure forward to prevent “UFO” type pumping of the mast.
