With regard to replacing a Sherwood raw pump with an Oberdorfer on Universal diesels. Here's most of what I know.
Although many of the Oberdorfer pumps look similar, and, in fact, may share the same case, impeller, cam shoe, cover, etc., they differ in the mounting flange. Most are based on Oberdorfer's N202M pump. The Oberdorfer Model N202M-908 fits M-12, M-18, M20, M-25, M-25XP, M30, M40, M50. https://www.pumpsandpartsonline.com/shop/oberdorfer-pumps/rubber-impeller/rubberimpellerpumps/N202M-908 The original pump was a Sherwood G-908, hence the 908 in the Oberdorfer model. It's Oberdorfer's long made N202M pump with a mounting flange for the Universal diesels. When I changed from the Sherwood to the Oberdorfer on my Universal 25XPB, it was NOT a direct replacement. The inlet and outlet spacing was different. The Oberdorfer had smaller spacing. Why is this important? If you choose to reuse the elbows from the Sherwood pump, you can thread on the first elbow but the barb on the second one is too long to install. That is, it hits the first elbow when you try to thread it on. The simple solution is to cut a bit off the barb so it will spin past the first elbow. I did that. Wasn't a big deal. Now, if you don't feel comfortable with that, call Depco Pumps. As I recall, they will sell you the Oberdorfer pump and two elbows with shorter barbs which will thread onto the pump. -- Dennis C.
