“The local loft is now closed- the last one in Canada I think “
Wow! That isn’t good.
I guess I am incredibly lucky to have several sailmakers and rigging shops
within a 30 minute drive of my house. How can someplace like Toronto not
support even one sailmaker?
I doubt I would ever mail order a main or jib, our local discount sailmaker
probably gets them from the same discount loft, but at least they can do
repairs and alternations here and come to my boat. Also not my bad if they
measure the boat and get it wrong.
Spinnakers – maybe. The fit is nowhere near as critical. A stock asym that is
around the right size is WAY cheaper than a bespoke sail, I am guessing maybe
50% cheaper or more. I think the last chute we bought was something like $3800
and that was a LONG time ago and a stock asym for my boat now in 2021 might be
half that.

The local loft is now closed- the last one in Canada I think Right – Now where
are you going to get your repairs done?
This is the problem, and why Local businesses matter.
UKNW in Sidney is still open, nice folks.
