Svetruck is a small Swedish forklift manufacturer, mostly dealing with log
handlers, paper mills, and container handlers. There smallest truck has a
capacity around 22,000 pounds. The truck in the photo has a capacity of 35,000
pounds at 47” from the vertical face of the forks; but given the nature of the
attachment in the photo (instead of standard forks) I’d expect it to be
somewhat less.

Actually, as forklifts go it is reasonably small. The big gray one shown in
another post looks a lot like an old Hyster container handler of about 80,000
pounds (at 8’ load center, up to about 60 feet high) – though we used iron
plates on the back of the counterweight instead of a concrete block.

During my time in the forklift business, I never was aware of an attachment
like this. But it is an interesting idea. The boatyard would have to be set up
specifically to handle this arrangement, with very wide aisles for boats
crosswise and the turning circle of the truck. That means a lot of expensive
land that could not be used for storage and the need for a haul out T instead
of a haul out slip … and the first boat placed in a line of boats would likely
be the last one to be launched in the spring. I can see that a conventional
travel lift would make more efficient use of the yard space and allow easier
access to any particular boat in the yard. I also wonder how they get the
straps under the boat (or out from under) when hauling and launching.

Forklifts are used mostly in dry stack yards here in the US –hence for power
boats.

That’s one big-ass forklift. Now I get it.

This is an example of a safe way to safely pick up a 34 ft boat with a large
forklift (care of 59-North on facebook):

I think that method is much better than trying from the end as it keeps the cg
much closer to the forklift (6 ft or so out) and uses straps to support the
boat similar to a travel lift. Of course, it will take a lot of room to
maneuver!
