Hi there, We proved conclusively that the tighter the forestay upwind, the faster you go . . . . unfortunately, since at some point you break something or the boat . . . . . Downwind, you can't get the spinnaker too far forward - in other words, the looser the backstay the better - gets the sail out away from the main . . . . Rob Ball C&C 34
