When I removed the Genoa Tracks on my 39, they had been bedded in Silicone. Never leaked. Put the new Harken Tracks down with Butyl, never leaked, but the heat would make the butyl weep out, which requires cleaning occasionally.
My Dorade boxes were originally bedded with silicone, and they were stuck as aggressively as 5200. That would have been 1973. Interestingly, the teak bungs were also set in silicone. Butyl has a cult following but it was not chosen by C&C during the build except for the hull deck joint. I like 3M 4200 and 4000uv. Anybody have opinions on Butyl being better?
