Hi Bill

Well - it is 11 years old and still working perfectly and looking great.  I replaced the mid cabin hatch with one as well (smaller size obviously).  Very happy with them.  Only issue with the forward hatch is that my jib sheets would catch in the gap between the hatch and the frame, I glued in some small blocks of teak with 5200 and no problems now.  The latching arms are plastic and don't give you the solid feel an aluminum arm does, but they have lasted thus far so not an issue.  On the forward hatch I can only use one hole-up arm as the deck opening has that cut corner on port aft, it messes with mounting the 2nd arm.  Hasn't been a problem.

I've mainly dealt with old A&H large hatches, and never owned a Lewmar, so hard to compare.  I prefer them to the A&H. Because it is an unusual size I had to replace the head hatch with a new A&H and I'm not thrilled with it.   (2 of the three hatches were toast and I replaced the mid cabin hatch just 'cause)

This is actually the second boat where I've replaced A&H with these.

That is a handsome looking hatch.

How do you compare the overall quality compared to Atkins & Hoyle or Lewmar?

Hi Matthew

Atkins & Hoyle make the direct replacement, but there is an alternative - I put on a low profile stainless hatch from these guys. http://www.manshipmarine.com/low-profile-deck-hatch.html

I'll look to see if I have any pics.

    Hello CnC list,

I was wondering if anyone knew exactly what kind and where I can find a
replacement for my forward hatch on a 1983 C&C 35 mkIII.

I am hoping I can just get a new hatch and use the existing frame, though I
assume it comes with a new frame as well just in case.

I measured the outer dimensions of the flanges on the frame at 20 7/8”
square, the outer dimensions of the hatch at ~21 13/16 square, and the inner
distance between the hinges on the hatch at 14 1/16”.

I thought this would use a Lewmar replacement but the dimensions don’t seem
to match.

    Thanks in advance.

This list is great, I wish I had more time to read it.
